Erik Nasarenko was elected to the Ventura City Council in November 2013.  He was appointed to the role of Mayor by his colleagues in December 2015, and served as Deputy Mayor for the first two years of his term.

In addition to his City Council responsibilities, Erik serves and protects Ventura County as a deputy district attorney, where he prosecutes child molestation and rape cases. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Erik worked in public education for over a decade, serving as chief deputy to the Los Angeles school board president and as a communications director to the Los Angeles and Pasadena school districts.

The son of Ukrainian immigrants, Erik grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended college at Case Western Reserve University before graduating Cum Laude with a B.A. in History from the University of California, Irvine, where he played intercollegiate soccer as a center forward.  He received his law degree from Loyola Law School, attending classes at night while working during the day.

Committed to community service, Erik has coached youth soccer and continues to volunteer as a referee.  He is married and has two children, ages six and nine, who love the Marina Park pirate ship, diving into the Ventura Community Park pool, and eating delicious Palermo gelato!  Erik and his wife Julia are members of the Ventura County Museum and ongoing season subscribers at the Rubicon Theatre Company.
