Darin began his career in law enforcement with the Port Hueneme Police Department in 1989. He then joined VPD in May of 1995 and was promoted to Corporal in September 1997, to Sergeant in September 2000, to Commander in December 2012, and to Assistant Chief in April, 2015.
During his tenure with VPD Darin has been a supervisor and worked in a number of assignments including as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer and Patrol Supervisor, Investigations, Ventura/Oxnard Narcotics Enforcement Team (VXNET) and Ventura County Combined Agency Task Force (VCAT), Traffic/Motors Division and Motors Supervisor, Professional Standards and Development Unit Supervisor, and his most recent assignment was as Commander of our Major Crimes Unit.
Darin holds an Associate's degree in General Studies from Ventura College, a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University, and a Master's degree (MBA) from California Coast University. He is also a graduate of California's POST Command College and the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. In 2008, Darin was selected as the department's Supervisor of the Year.
