1. How do I view building permit records?: A Public Portal that allows for access to the permit history of City of Ventura addresses is available on the Records webpage.
The Public Portal is available 24/7 and there is no fee to conduct your search and print the records you desire. Records online include: Microfiche Permits, Permits, Private Sewer Lateral Reports, etc.
If you do not find the information you are seeking, request records from home or the office by logging on to My Ventura Access.
City staff can process your request and locate records, subject to a fee (see current fee schedule). Please note: If you are looking for copies of Archive plans, you will need to obtain a signed release from the design professional and property owner before those documents can be released. Please call 805-654-7869 to get more information about the process.

2. What are the City of Ventura construction hours?

Construction noise control:

The City Municipal Code - Chapter 10-650, regulates the construction noise level in the City of Ventura. The construction work must be performed within the fours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. seven days a week. This time frame may be modified for some larger projects and will be referred to on the Planning Division's "Conditions of Approval".

The maximum noise level allowed in residential zones is 55 decibels (Db) and in commercial zones is 65 Db.

The following are excerpts from The City of Ventura Municipal Code Section 10-650.

D. Construction of buildings and structures.

Between the hours of 8:00 p.m. of one day and 7:00 a.m. of the next, no person adjacent to or within any residential zone in the city shall operate power construction equipment or tools or perform any outside construction repair work on buildings or structures, or operation any pile driver, steam shovel, pneumatic hammer, steam or electric hoist or other construction device so as to crease any noise which exceeds the noise level limits of this article. These specified construction activities are permitted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The performance or emergency work is except from the provisions of this section.
Home repairs and routine maintenance of personal property such as automobiles or boats is not considered construction.
The planning commission and city council shall retain the right to impose more restrictive hours of construction upon any projects involving construction activity by adding appropriate conditions to the city's approval of subdivisions, planned development permits, conditional use permits, variances and other projects.

3. How do I schedule building permit inspections?: Scheduling inspections can be done through Ventura OPS (Online Permit Services).
Inspections will not be completed on the alternate Friday when City Hall is closed. Please review the City of Ventura calendar before requesting a Friday inspection.
Inspections must be received the business day before the inspection is needed. Meaning, if you need a Monday inspection prior to the closed Friday, you will need to call the Thursday before, no later than 5:00 PM.

Off-hours inspections are available when arranged 48 hours in advance for an additional fee, depending on staff availability. Call (805) 654-7869 to inquire and get more information.

4. What are the current adopted codes being enforced by the City of Ventura?: The City of Ventura has adopted the 2022 California Code of Regulations, Title 24 with certain amendments. These codes and amendments are effective January 1, 2023. All projects submitted after January 1, 2023, must comply with the 2022 California Codes of Regulations and the City of Cupertino amendments. All projects submitted prior to December 22, 2022 fall under the 2019 California Codes of Regulations.

5. What if I have additional questions?
