1. What is zoning?

Zoning is a set of rules that outline what you can and cannot do with your property.  

2. Is it easy to change the zoning of a property?

No. Changing the zoning of a property consists of a long, extensive and very expensive process. It is not common practice to change the zoning of a property.

3. What is the zoning of my property?

To check the zoning of your property, you can use the City of Ventura’s GIS map. You can search your property via the search box or navigate to your property using your mouse. 

To check the zoning, ‘click’ the red ‘Optional Map Layer’ box on the top left of the GIS map. The red ‘Optional Map Layer’ box is three icons on the right of the search bar. Additionally, you can email the Planning Division at [email protected]. 

4. What are my setbacks?

Setbacks  vary based upon zone. Please see the FAQ above for “What is my zoning”.  

Basic Zoning Requirements can be found on the City’s website. Additionally, you can email [email protected] with your question to better understand your setbacks. You can also come into the Public Counter in Room 117 on the 1st floor of City Hall to speak with a Planner.
