Matt LaVere, a native Venturan, was elected to the Ventura City Council in November 2016.

Matt owns a law firm based in Downtown Ventura where he advises numerous local businesses and individuals on corporate, employment and real estate matters. Prior to working as a lawyer Matt held positions in the White House, as a legislative advisor on Capitol Hill, and worked a six month position with the United States Attorney’s Office Organized Crime Strike Force in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 Following graduation from Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, Matt attended Pepperdine University where he earned a bachelor's degree with honors and distinction in 2000. Matt earned his law degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law.

 Matt serves on the Council’s Economic Development and Homeless subcommittees, as well as representing the City on the Ventura Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development subcommittee, the Ventura Council of Governments (VCOG) and the Regional Defense Partnership for the 21st Century (RDP-21).

 In addition to his City Council duties, Matt also enjoys serving his hometown community as a Board Member of the Ventura College Foundation, Project Understanding and the Downtown Ventura Rotary Club. He is an advocate for protecting and expanding the use of Ventura's amazing collection of parks, beaches and open space, and served on the City of Ventura Parks and Recreation Commission from June 2014 to November 2016.

 Matt resides in Ventura with his wife Alicia and daughter Lucia. In his free time, Matt and his family enjoy hiking the Ventura Botanical Gardens trails and spending time with friends on Pierpont's beautiful beaches.
