Cheryl Heitmann was first elected to the Ventura City Council in November 2011.  She was appointed to the role of Mayor by her colleagues in December 2013 for a two year term, and served as Deputy Mayor for the first two years of her four-year term.

Cheryl Heitmann served as the Executive Director of the Ventura Music Festival from 2006-2012.  She is a licensed clinical social worker and had a private practice for 18 years.  In addition, she was the co-owner of a political and fundraising consulting group for 20 years.

Ms. Heitmann serves as President of the board of the Economic Development Collaborative, Ventura County (EDCVC) and is a board member of Women’s Economic Ventures (WEV), Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau, Downtown Ventura Organization, Ventura County Ballet Co, National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Committee, Chair of Gold Coast Transit District, and City liaison to the Ventura Chamber of Commerce. She chairs the Ventura City Council’s Economic Development Subcommittee and is a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Ventura and the Pierpont Bay Community Council.

Ms. Heitmann served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ventura County Community College District for 8 years, two terms as President of the Board.  

Her work has led to numerous honors: Top 50 Women in Business (Pacific Coast Business Times 2008), Top Non-Profit Leaders (Pacific Coast Business Times 2010), outstanding Citizen Gold Award from the California Teachers’ Association, and the Communication and Leadership Award from Toastmasters International, District #33, among others.

Ms. Heitmann is married with 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren.
