Jim Friedman is a graduate of Cal State Northridge with a BA in Political Science.  He has been in the financial services industry for 40 years.  A Charted Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant, Jim specializes in employee benefits for small and mid-size companies as well as financial planning for businesses, individuals and families.  Always wiling to volunteer his time to his community, Jim was first elected to the Ventura City Council in 1995, he served as mayor in 1998 for a two-year term, and was re-elected in 1999 for a four year term. After a 16-year hiatus, Jim ran for City Council again in November 2018 and was elected to represent District 5.

Jim has served as a Ventura Harbor Port Commissioner since 2012 to 2018. He also served as the Chairman of the City of Ventura Redevelopment Oversight Committee from 2012-2018 and as President of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce from 1995-1996.  Jim and his wife Kelli, a third grade teacher at Mound Elementary School In East Ventura enjoy traveling whenever they have time to get out of town
