City of Ventura residents are invited to smash and compost their Halloween pumpkins at Cornucopia Community Gardens on Tuesday, November 8, from 3 to 6pm. Pumpkins must not have glue or glitter, but paint is okay. This is a free event, and registration is not required. Pumpkin smashing might get messy, so please dress accordingly. Tools will be provided.
Residents will smash their pumpkins on-site into compostable pieces and add it to our compost pile at the Gardens. The compost product eventually created is a nutrient rich soil amendment, which can help improve soil health and support plant growth. This process saves space in our landfills and does not generate harmful methane gas, as organic waste in landfills does.
For those unable to attend this Pumpkin Smash, composting pumpkins through the City’s residential food waste recycling program.
