Ocean Data Collection Notice

Ocean Data Notice

Summary of Work

The City is planning to collect ocean currents data to inform the design of the new ocean outfall as part of the VenturaWaterPure Program.

In the upcoming weeks, an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) unit will be deployed on the ocean floor approximately 1 mile west of Ventura Harbor to collect twelve months of ocean current data to support modeling.  The work will not result in negative impacts to the ocean floor or aquatic environment.

As required by the California Coastal Commission, Notice of Permitting signage is posted at Marina Park.

Background

The City of Ventura is pursuing VenturaWaterPure, a potable reuse project that will recover, treat, and reuse water that is currently discharged into the Santa Clara River Estuary. The project will allow the City to meet legal and regulatory requirements, improve water quality, and secure a new local source of drinking water. A new ocean outfall is a critical component of VenturaWaterPure Project and is anticipated to be constructed in 2024.

Additional information regarding the ocean outfall is available on the VenturaWaterPure website at venturawaterpure.net
