On Thursday, May 20, 2021, firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department will conduct a live fire training burn in Sexton Canyon from 9am-3pm. Nearby residents may notice smoke and/or helicopter traffic in the area. The controlled training burn will involve the ignition of grass/brush as firefighters practiced wildfire suppression techniques. Control lines will be established with firefighting resources on scene throughout the duration of the burn to provide containment within this area. Controlled training burns, like this one, provide increased protection against wildfires through the removal of vegetation. They also provide essential training by giving firefighters the opportunity to work with live fire.
