Construction underway on the Loma Vista Area sewer line replacement project; motorists are advised of temporary lane closures during the six-month work period

Beginning the week of February 13, 2017 the City of Ventura and Ventura Water will be replacing the aging, deteriorating sewer line along Thompson Blvd., to Katherine Drive and on Loma Vista Road. The City’s contractor, Toro Enterprises, Inc. will begin the project with digging work at the intersection of Thompson Blvd. and Seaward Avenue. Construction in the roadway will progress east and north along the work route until the completion point at the intersection of Loma Vista Road and Hillmont Avenue. The project is expected to continue through July 2017.

Approximately 4,500 feet of 10-inch to 12-inch deteriorating vitrified clay pipes (VCP) installed pre-1920 will be replaced with new, larger capacity 15-inch sewer pipes; 19 new sewer manholes will also be installed and rehabilitated. The $1.4 million construction cost for the planned replacement project is funded by Wastewater rates (not tax dollars) and is necessary to maintain essential city services and public health. The sewer line replacement project provides critical infrastructure; it will improve reliability, reduce maintenance costs and ensure Ventura’s sewer services continue meeting the needs of residents and businesses, including the nearby hospitals.

Construction work will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. However, some work at key intersections may be performed overnight between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. to avoid significant traffic impacts to the public. Signage, construction cones and flaggers will alert motorists to temporary lane closures and traffic detours in the affected area.

Residents and businesses will be notified in advance of any significant access impacts to their area during construction. Homeowners and business owners will continue to have access to their property.

A special Sewer Line Replacement project hotline has been set up to provide the public with daily project updates at 805-658-4731.
