[ARCHIVED] Geotechnical Study at Marina Park

Geotechnical Study Newsflash

Summary of Work

In the upcoming weeks, the City is performing geotechnical studies to gather data and information that will be critical for permitting and designing the new ocean outfall, as part of the VenturaWaterPure Project. The geotechnical studies will be conducted in Fall 2020. The onshore activities include borings and soil tests (PCPTs) that will be conducted at and near Marina Park. This work will not interfere with your right-of-way and will have limited impacts to the Park.

Background

The City of Ventura is pursuing VenturaWaterPure, a potable reuse project that will recover, treat, and reuse water that is currently discharged into the Santa Clara River Estuary. The project will allow the City to meet legal and regulatory requirements, improve water quality, and secure a new local source of drinking water. A new ocean outfall is a critical component of VenturaWaterPure Project and is anticipated to be constructed in

What are the boring holes for?

Boring holes allow for the collection of soil samples for the geotechnical study. The geotechnical study will be used to gather soil samples, test soil properties, and categorize the soil profile along the pipeline alignment. This information is needed for the design of the ocean outfall.

What are the impacts to Marina Park?

Impacts to Marina Park will be limited to the duration of the soil collection process. Three geotechnical bore holes and four CPTs will be performed using a truck rig in and around Marina Park. The park will remain open and accessible to the public. While it is anticipated that the investigation will not cause any damage to the park, any impacted areas will be restored to its original state.

When will the sampling studies take place?

The onshore investigation at Marina Park is tentatively scheduled for the week of October 5, 2020. Work will be conducted between the hours of 7:00 am to 5:00 pm for approximately five days.

When will construction of the ocean outfall take place?

It is anticipated that the construction of the outfall will take place in 2024. Additional information regarding the ocean outfall is available on the VenturaWaterPure website at venturawaterpure.net
