The Nomination Period for Ventura City Council candidates who reside in Districts 1, 4, 5 and 6 is July 16–August 10, 2018. Interested individuals must pull/receive their nomination papers from the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 501 Poli Street, during office hours Monday-Thursday 7:30 am–5:30 pm and Friday 8 am – 5 pm; City Hall will be closed July 20 and August 3. Eligible candidates running for Ventura City Council must be at least 18 years of age, a registered voter and a resident of their respective District.
The City Clerk’s Office will be hosting two Candidate Orientation meetings on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 8:30 am in City Council Chambers, and 4 pm in the Community Meeting Room at Ventura City Hall; the same information will be presented at both meetings. Candidates are requested to RSVP at (805) 658-4787. The orientation will provide information about the nomination process, required campaign forms and deadlines.
“The City Clerk’s Office is ready to assist all potential candidates so that they are fully aware of the process,” said City Clerk Antoinette Mann. “Campaign committee members are encouraged to attend with the candidate.”
Pulling nomination papers can be completed during the orientation wherein attendees will also receive candidate manuals. Individuals unable to attend the orientation may schedule a one-hour appointment during the Nomination Period by calling (805) 658-4787.
In January 2018, the Ventura City Council adopted an ordinance to transition City Council elections from at-large to district-based elections. The City of Ventura will hold its first district-based elections on November 8, 2018.
