Corporal Alyse Quiroz reunited with abuse survivor

Quiroz

At only 10-months old, Emma was abused by her mother and desperately needed someone on her side. Corporal Alyse Quiroz was assigned to her case and Deputy District Attorney Heather Sweatman was the prosecutor. Thankfully, the mother was convicted of felony child abuse in late 2021 and after the trial, the victim was legally adopted by a relative and renamed Emma.

Recently, Emma and her adoptive mother surprised Corporal Quiroz and Heather with a special visit at work. In the photos, Emma is holding two special teddy bears, one that was given to her at the hospital immediately following the incident, and an extra bear that Alyse sent her in case the first one gave out or got lost.

Seeing Emma and knowing she is now thriving serves as a special reminder of why we do what we do.
