Ocean Outfall Construction Update

Posted on October 25, 2023 at 3:26 PM by Jennifer Buckley

Thank you for your continued patience as we make progress on the Ocean Outfall Construction project. It is our commitment to keep you informed about the latest developments and their impacts.

We are pleased to inform you that the project is currently running ahead of schedule. The next crucial step in our construction process is to pull the pipe beneath the harbor, connecting the Port District to Marina Park.

This operation requires uninterrupted work to maintain the integrity of the newly drilled path. As soon as the drilling phase is completed, the contractor will initiate the pipe-pulling process. The pipe-pulling operation may extend for a continuous 48-hour period. This work could start anytime between Saturday, October 28, and Monday, October 30.

We want to make you aware that there might be some slight variations in the schedule due to unforeseen circumstances during the drill work. Rest assured, we will keep you informed through email notifications and updates on our website as necessary.

Estimated work schedule for pipe pullback:

  • 48-hour maximum work to start anytime between Saturday, October 28, and Monday, October 30.

What to expect*:

  • Detours at Anchors Way and Beachmont Street (see map below)
  • Continuous construction-related noise for 24-hour work intervals. Note: this noise will be similar to vehicle activity and not the recent noise experienced during the pipe casing installation.

Access and safety:

  • Access will be maintained for businesses, emergency vehicles, and residences. Detours are in place and outlined in the map below.
  • Please follow all construction signage and detours (including vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles) as posted and travel carefully near active work areas for safety.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation during this crucial phase of the project. We are committed to minimizing disruptions and ensuring the work is completed efficiently. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to us through our contact information on the website.

We look forward to delivering a successful and well-executed project that will benefit our community in the long run.

*The project is designed to minimize construction impacts as much as possible. For more information, see the environmental impact report.
