What is Teen Voice?


"One Voice Has The Power Of Many"


Teen Voice (PDF), the City of Ventura's high school and middle school leadership program founded in 2008, develops student leadership programs and activities on and off campuses. Participants must be nominated by their school counselor, complete an application and questionnaire.

The mission of Teen Voice is to build positive relationships between high school and middle school students and their community; and to provide opportunities for community involvement, betterment of their school, neighborhood and city.

We aim to engage youth in productive activities by including students from Buena, Foothill and Ventura High Schools, as well as Cabrillo Middle School for the following goals:
  • Develop Leadership Skills
  • Develop Teamwork Skills
  • Develop Enrichment Programs/Activities on Campus and Community
  • Build Positive Relationships with Students and Community Members

Expectations


Students must:
  • Be willing to get others involved
  • Desire to learn and willingness to work hard
  • Have leadership potential
  • Have a strong drive to be involved
  • Want to have fun
Their parents must attend an Orientation Meeting and ensure that their child attends all scheduled activities.
 

Leadership Retreat Goals


  • Students will get to know each other
  • Plan weekly school meetings on campus
  • Develop community projects and partnerships
  • Discuss on campus programs and activities
  • Sessions on leadership development
  • Students will develop an individual leadership plan on skills they want to improve
