Free Business Assistance and Waste Assessments

The Environmental Sustainability Office offers free on-site visits to ALL businesses within the City of Ventura. This visit includes a preliminary waste characterization, which often leads to easily implemented steps to enhance your new or existing recycling and / or waste reduction program.

Environmental Sustainability staff will also provide suggestions for increasing employee participation, collection strategies, janitorial in-services, energy conservation tips, composting, and more.

To request an on-site visit or more information about Business Recycling, please call 805-652-4595.

Green Business Certification Program

For businesses that want to go above and beyond to protect the environment, and get some great publicity in return, the City of Ventura offers a Green Business Certification Program, which currently has over 90 certified green businesses.

The City of Ventura is part of the California Green Business Network, which means local business can become Certified Green Businesses by following industry-specific guidelines, with the help of local Green Business Program Coordinator Lars Davenport. Visit GreenBusinessCA.org/CityofVentura for more information, and to find or become a green business.

Commercial Recycling

As of January 2022, all businesses (including multi-family residential dwellings of five or more units) must arrange for recycling of their organic waste and general recyclables. Organic waste is yard waste (landscape and pruning waste), and food waste.

The City of Ventura and E. J. Harrison & Sons can provide free waste assessments to help businesses comply with this law. Options for recycling yard and food waste can also be discussed during free waste assessments. To set up a waste assessment at your business, call 805-652-4525.

Environmental Excellence Award

An award in recognition of businesses that go beyond day-to-day practices to protect the environment. Every year, the City of Ventura Environmental Sustainability Division works with the Ventura Chamber of Commerce to identify one business that is integrating environmental concerns into their business practices and philosophy.
