Bridge Enhancement


The California Street Bridge Enhancement project will improve the pedestrian experience by replacing the existing low-height pedestrian railing along the bridge with a six-foot high 250-foot long decorative railing, add eight decorative pedestrian lighting fixtures, and resurface the sidewalk area to add and improve the safety and aesthetics of walking across the California Bridge over Highway 101.


Start Date February 2016


Construction dates are February - August 2016; 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Access may be restricted during construction work; detours will help guide pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists safely around the project area. This project will require occasional northbound and/or southbound Highway 101 night closures at the California Street Bridge; detours will route motorists around the construction.
