General Information

July is National Parks & Recreation Month. Join us as we celebrate with a weekly Parks Make Life Better challenge encouraging Ventura to enjoy our parks, beaches, and open spaces.  We love what we do and as Parks and Recreation professionals, the Department is committed to its mission, "To enrich the quality of life through parks, recreation experiences, and partnerships."

National Parks & Recreation Month Weekly Challenges   

Throughout the month of July, we have fun activities planned to celebrate the value of parks and recreation in our community. Beginning July 6, a weekly social media challenge will be posted on the Department's Ventura Parks & Recreation Facebook page using the hashtag #ParksMakeLifeBetter. Residents who complete each weekly challenge will be entered into a raffle for free Parks & Recreation swag!

Week 1:  July 6-11

Hiking trail at Arroyo Verde Park

Week 2:  July 12 -18

Visit a hiking trail or walking path throughout the City. To see what City parks have trails and walking paths, visit

Week 3:  July 19 -25

Play toss with a family member or friend at a City beach. Any ball or frisbee will do. For a list of City beaches, visit

Week 4:  July 26-August 1   

Enjoy a picnic at a City park. Bring food from home or grab takeout from a local restaurant for this picnic in a park challenge. Please remember to pick up your trash and leave the park clean for the next person to enjoy. For a list of City Parks, visit  

How to Participate in the Weekly Raffle

  • Email a photo or short video of you, or your friends or family members participating in the weekly activity to Community Outreach Specialist Amber Workman at Note, by emailing your photo or video you give the City of Ventura permission to use the photo(s) or video(s) in future marketing materials on the City’s website, social media sites, or Activity Guides.
