General Information

Volunteers play an important role in the City of Ventura. By contributing their time, energy, and talents, volunteers support a wide variety of programs and services. From beach clean-ups, to coaching, to leading historical tours, and delivering meals to seniors, volunteers make a huge difference in our community!

Clean CA - Cornucopia Community Garden Clean-Up

Help beautify the Cornucopia Community Garden to celebrate Caltrans' Clean CA Community Days & National Volunteer Month. 

Tasks include:

  • Re-mulching pathways and educational areas
  • Cleaning signage, tables, plots, and benches
  • Hauling trash & green waste to bins
  • Clearing weeds or leveling areas

Bring work gloves, shoes, water, and sunscreen. Garden tools will be available on site.

Pollinator Palooza

The City of Ventura Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a free community event to celebrate pollinators and native plants. Local community organizations will have booths, speakers and hands-on activities for children and families.

Location: Barranca Vista Park
Volunteer shifts: 8 am – 4 pm

Event-related duties include:

  • Event Setup and Breakdown Support
  • Parking lot control safety monitors
  • Helping at art and activity stations

Cornucopia Community Garden - Button

Helpers at the Community Gardens

The City of Ventura is regularly seeking volunteers ages 16 and older, to assist in maintaining our beautiful community gardens at Cornucopia, Kellogg and/or Westpark sites. Community service hours are available to students and groups. Weekdays 9 am to 5 pm.

Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center

The City of Ventura is looking for volunteers, ages 14 and older, to assist in maintaining our sailing and kayaking equipment at the Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center (at the south end of Pierpont Blvd.). Scheduled the 1st Friday of every month from 10 am - 12:30 pm. Community service hours are available to students.

Rose Garden Pruning at the Park

The City of Ventura is regularly seeking volunteers ages 16 and older, to assist in maintaining our beautiful rose gardens (pruning) at the Historic Olivas Adobe and Barranca Vista Park sites in Ventura. Community service hours are available to students and groups. (10 is the maximum number of volunteers for each scheduled project)

Senior Nutrition Program - VAAC Kitchen Staff

Senior Nutrition Program & Home Delivered Meals

The City of Ventura is regularly seeking volunteers to help prep, serve and/or deliver food to our Senior Nutrition Program participants. Volunteer shifts are typically between 8:30 am - 2:30 pm daily, excluding weekends and holidays.

Each year, the City of Ventura seeks volunteers, 16 and older, to assist at the 4th of July Street Fair and Pushem-Pullem Parade.

Event-related duties include:

  • Safety Zone Monitors
  • Barricade/Traffic Control Safety Monitors
  • Event Cleanliness Patrol
  • Event Setup and Breakdown Support
  • Event Décor

During the summer months, the City of Ventura seeks volunteers, 16 and older, to assist with Music Under the Stars outdoor concerts at the Olivas Adobe Historical Park.

Event-related duties include:

  • Setup/and Take Down Tables and Chairs
  • Décor, Signs, and Barricades
  • Crowd Management and Parking Lot Control
  • Ticket Takers
  • Gate Attendants
  • Cleanup

Volunteers in Policing (VIP)

Volunteers are an essential component to the Ventura Police Department’s Community Problem Oriented Policing efforts. Volunteers have an opportunity to learn about law enforcement and help improve law enforcement services.
