July 16, 2018 - August 10, 2018 (Elections Code Sections 12112, 6061)
The nomination period for obtaining and submitting candidacy documents for the single City Council position in Districts 1, 4, 5, and 6 is Monday, July 16, 2018 through Friday, August 10, 2018, during the office hours of 7:30 a.m. -5:30 p.m. (Monday – Thursday) and 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Friday’s).City Hall is closed alternate Fridays on July 20 and August 3, 2018. All candidacy documents must be obtained from the City Clerk and submitted simultaneously on the appropriate forms provided by the City Clerk’s Office.
With switching to District Elections, current councilmember are not considered incumbents for purpose of extending the nomination period as they were elected at-large.We currently do not have any councilmembers that have been elected by Districts to represent a District.Therefore, the nomination period will NOT be extended. The nomination period ends on August 10, 2018.
Registered Voters in Districts 1, 4, 5 and 6 are eligible to run for office.
City Clerk, Antoinette Mann, is hosting two Candidate Orientation Meetings on Monday, July 16, 2018. If you want to learn more about running in this election or a future election, this is the session for you to attend. During these sessions, individuals interested in running for City Council will learn about the process with becoming a candidate, election deadlines and may pull nomination papers (after voter registration confirmation) and receive all required forms. Candidates are encouraged to bring their Election Committee members to an orientation session.
Individuals unable to attend and wanting to run for office are encouraged to contact City Clerk Mann to schedule a 1-hour meeting during the nomination period to receive candidacy documents and instructions at (805) 658-4787
