Vacation Checks are a courtesy service performed by members of our Volunteers In Policing (VIP) Program.
You may request a vacation check at your residence by submitting a Vacation Check form. If approved, Department Volunteers will patrol, when available, the perimeter of your residence to investigate if there have been any signs of a crime or entry. They will check to ensure doors and windows are closed and locked, and that there are no visible signs of entry or criminal activity (i.e: a smashed window). In the event of an emergency or issue at the home, you (or a local emergency contact as indicated on the form) would be contacted regarding the nature of the issue.
Vacation Checks are conducted based on availability of staffing and calls for service. It is not a guarantee your home will be checked daily and it is important that you secure your residence prior to departing. Additionally, the service is not for vacant properties, residences where someone is staying at the property, or for homes being fumigated.
